Giveaway, Speaking Engagement, Vote!: Monday Blog Post

Runs from November 2nd through November 11th

Newest News:

Today, I have a fun surprise to share with you…

I’ve teamed up with 30+ fantastic authors to give away a huge collection of Sci-Fi & Fantasy books to 2 lucky winners!

Oh, and did I mention the Grand Prize winner gets a BRAND NEW eReader? ?

You can win my novel A New Start, plus books from authors like Barbara Annino and Margo Bond Collins.

The give away starts on November 2nd so I’ll post the link here, then. It only lasts 10 days. See my Facebook and Twitter and even my Instagram pages for announcements.

My Pine, Friends of the Library meeting, was a great success. What a lovely, and friendly, group of people. Everyone stayed masked and separated, and we had a wonderful chat about how I started writing and what I write about. I don’t have any more events yet though my town is starting an evening, Christmas Fair type market. I may get a spot there, I’ll let you know.

If you haven’t already, here’s a reminder to vote on November 3rd.

Stay safe. Stay well.

Giveaways:

The Halloween giveaway is over! You can check it out at: https://conniesrandomthoughts.com/giveaways-and-prizes/. I’ll let you know the winners and when the Christmas giveaway goes up as soon as everything is set up.

Advertising, Speaking Engagement, Giveaway: Monday Blog Post

Newest News:

My Amazon advertising course officially ends today. Lessons ended last week but the course facebook group and the expert advice ran through today, not only to allow those who entered late or were working more slowly to catch up, but so that we could see how the ads performed. Mine seem to be doing pretty well, with a handful of sales taking place. Not big money at this point but it does show that the ads work and I have enough advice from the host of the training to make the ads better. It was quite an eye-opening course so I’m eager to make ads for my other books and series.

Just a reminder to vote on November 3rd if you haven’t already.

Stay safe. Stay well.

Giveaways:

The Halloween giveaway is still up! You can check it out at: https://conniesrandomthoughts.com/giveaways-and-prizes/. As always, each author is giving away at least 2 prizes and there’s a Paypal cash grand prize.

Where will I Be?

Pine Library, 6124 W. Randall Place, Pine AZ, Friends of the Library meeting is October 26th, at 1pm. This is on! Because cooler weather has arrived in Rim Country, the event has been moved to the Library’s meeting room. If you happen to be in Pine, AZ, on that date, come on by. I’ll have some books available for purchase and signing. Social distancing and mask wearing will be the fashion. See you there!

Health, Advertising, Giveaway: Monday Blog Post

Newest News:

I’m still recovering from the surgery I had on October 1st. Incisions are healing nicely. Broken toe is also healing, though I still need to keep it taped to the toe next to it. My follow up appointment for the surgery is scheduled for November. No lifting till then.

I didn’t work writing last week as I am taking a course on how to do Amazon Ads. It’s intense, extremely fast paced and I’m learning a lot! Categories, keywords, the reports Amazon makes available and how to use them. My brain is a bit fried, to be honest. Monday and Tuesday are the last two days of the course but I’m all in. I had a sale, over the weekend, of Mystery at the Fair, the book I decided to use for these exercises, which I attribute to the ads. I’m stoked!

Stay safe. Stay well.

Busy week, Kitchen deep clean, Giveaway: Monday Blog Post

Our wedding. Such goofs.

Newest News:

Newest news is that I’m busy this week! LOL! I know. Everyone is busy. But I have something or two somethings going on every single day. I’m retired. I shouldn’t have that many appointments. But I do, so there we are. I hope your week is suitably busy and not stressing you out. What’s on tap? My book festival meeting and a neighborhood ladies lunch on Monday. Tuesday is the town Chamber of Commerce luncheon which I’m attending as the chamber is bringing back the guy from Google to teach business people how to use the app. There’s also the Girls Night Out group meeting at happy hour. Can’t miss that. Wednesday brings the Arizona Professional Writer’s state officer’s meeting. I’m the Membership Chair and the President of the Rim Country Chapter. That will end up being an all day event because it’s being held in Phoenix. Thursday is the Gila Community College board meeting and I’m now on that board. The evening is Bunko and it’s at my house. I started cleaning last week. The cupboards were a disaster and I’ve tossed a lot of stuff out. So that makes me feel good. I have a meeting with the venue where the book festival is going to be held on Friday morning. After that, it’s our Anniversary on Sunday. Forty-five years. Whew! I’ll try to keep up!

Above I mentioned that I decided to do a deep clean of the kitchen this last week. It was long overdue. It’s amazing how junk builds up in the cabinets. Lot’s of stuff has hit the storage area for a yard sale. Lots of other stuff went directly into the trash. Hubby has been an awesome help. Otherwise we’d still be doing the tops of the cabinets. I still have the bottom cabinets to do but there’s not so much stuff down there to be moved, cabinets washed, the stuff put back. And again, I’ll have my eyes peeled for pots, pans, etc., that can be tossed!

I’m Literary! Giveaway Opens, Fruit Trees Pruned: Monday Blog Post

Newest News:

Just after I posted last week, I received news that a story I wrote last August, had been accepted and was just published. The way it happened was that I met a woman, Rosemary Dombrowski, a poet from Arizona State University, who was doing some pre-book festival work with sixth-graders here in Payson for us. She has this literary magazine she and some of her students and other instructors work on, called Writing For Peace. https://writingforpeace.org/gardens-in-the-desert-cultivating-awareness/ It turned out they were accepting short stories and poems and art for the upcoming Winter 2020 edition. The theme was Gardens in the Desert, Cultivating Awareness. Even though my fiction isn’t considered literary, an idea immediately popped into my mind and I wrote it up.  After I sent it in, I just forgot about it. Then a few days ago, I was contacted by the staff to check my story for correctness. A week later, boom, I have a link to the electronic copy. I hear an actual paper version will be published later this year. I’m looking forward to that as there are wonderful stories in there and stunning artwork. Want to check it out while it’s free? Click on the link above and it takes you right to it. My story, A Little Bit of Light, is in the Fiction link. Enjoy it and the other stories, art, and poetry.

Peach tree from 2019

I mentioned last week that it was time to prune my fruit trees. I actually got it done. I managed to sprain my wrist in the process but the two pears, the peach, and the nectarine trees have all been cut back, crosswise branches trimmed and the trees are now ready for spring. The rosebushes and the lavender bush all still to be done but that will get done eventually too. How about you? Are you able to garden yet or do you still need to wait for the snow to leave?

Giveaway, TempeFanCon, Ottoman Empire: Monday Blog Post

TempeFanCon 2020

Newest News:

Saturday the 25th, I had a table at the Tempe Library TempeFanCon. It was an outdoor event, but the weather was absolutely perfect. There were 90 vendor tables with authors, groups like the SCA, the Umbrella Society, and more. A large percentage of attendees came dressed in cosplay costumes and it was a pleasure to see everyone walking around, talking to the vendors and taking pictures of all the great costumes. The above picture is of a particularly good group of Marvel characters. If you get a chance to attend one of these events in your area, you should go. It’s a lot of fun and you get to meet great authors, artists, and cosplayers!

Last night hubby and I started watching a show on the Ottoman empire. It’s presented as a mix of interviews with expert historians on the empire and dramatizations of the events. The first episode was on the emperor’s attempt to take over Constantinople in the 1400s. At that time the Roman empire was still hanging on by its fingernails. The Eastern Roman Emperor ruled from Constantinople and in actuality, controlled nothing but the city. The Ottomans controlled all the rest of the area, clear up to Eastern Europe. My brain was buzzing with questions. I’d heard of the Ottoman empire but to be honest, know very little about it other than it controlled a huge area of eastern Europe and the middle east, including Egypt, all the way to India. I just finished a history called Edge of Empire, Conquest and Collecting in the East 1750 – 1850. The book talked about, among other things, how the French and British, contending with each other for dominance in the region, had to work with the Ottoman Empire to get permission to dig for antiquities, set up embassies and the like. Now I’m very intrigued. The Ottoman Empire lasted over 400 years. Where did they come from? How’d they rise to power? And of course, ideas for stories began streaming through my head. This was a very exciting time in history and the things that can be discussed are nearly endless. So there you have it. Where do ideas for stories come from? From TV for one, history for another. What are you reading that stirs your imagination?

Giveaways:

The Christmas giveaway grand prize winner was Sara Zielinski. We’re so happy that Sara won the Paypal cash. I had two winners pulled, Richard Robinson and Caitlynn Clevenger. I am signed up for the St. Patrick’s Day giveaway. I’ll post links as soon as I get them.

Newest News:

At the last moment the trial I was going to jury selection for had a continuance. So, I’ll be notified when I’ll be called back. Hope it’s not in the middle of NaNo.

I don’t have anything on my calendar until the December Mesa Book Festival. The date is December 14th from 10am – 5pm and the location has changed to 225 E Main St, Mesa. This is the Benedictine University, for those familiar with Mesa. I am sharing a booth space with the wonderful Marsha Ward. The site only promotes the author registering the table, so you’ll only see Marsha’s name, not mine. But I promise, I’ll be there. You can find all the details and a map at https://anthology.org/category/mesa-book-festival/.

On the other hand, if something juicy comes up, because it’s a long time between now and December, I’ll let you know. Do you know of an event where you’d like to see me? I’d love to know about it. Contact me here and say the word.

Payson Book Festival, Phoenix Fan Fusion T’s, Book Sale & Giveaway: Monday Blog Post

Newest News:

Here are just four of the wonderful women of Four Carat Press who attended the Payson Book Festival!

Wow! I cannot tell you how excited I am about this last weekend’s Payson Book Festival. We’re still doing the counts, but I can tell you that there were a LOT of people at the festival. With 93 authors, vendors, and publishers, this was a great event. If you were able to get to Payson and participate, thank you so much. If you didn’t get to come, I’m sorry you missed it. We had the Mogollon Monster, the Storybook monster, puppet shows, presentations, and did I mention the 93 authors? Here’s the secret. Mark your calendar for July 18, 2020. This is free to attendees and we welcome families. Money raised by the festival goes in part to two scholarships. One to a graduating high school student and one to a student at the Payson campus of the Gila Community College. Literacy is one of our missions and we put that in the forefront of our efforts. So! See you in 2020! You won’t be sorry you’ve come to the cool pines of Payson.

After the Phoenix Fan Fusion, I began showing some of the t-shirts from the show. Here is one for this week. I’ll have to admit. I really laughed out loud!

What a deal. For the month of July, I’m still offering many of my books either 50% off or free! That’s right, the entire month of July is Smashwords’ Summer/Winter Sale and I’m participating. If you decide to pick up one of my books, I hope you enjoy it. If you do, a small review would be greatly appreciated.

One more giveaway if you are a SciFi, Apocalyptic/Dystopian fan. Starting today! I’m with a group of authors offering just that. The giveaway is called World’s End and is through Book Funnel. You’ll be asked to join author’s newsletters. This giveaway is over at the end of July so don’t wait too long or you’ll miss it!

Gardening. What’s your gardening problem this year? Mine is the chipmunks, squirrels, and the rabbit that have taken up residence in my back yard. Sigh. The beautiful stone sided bed my husband built for me is empty. I’ve planted 3 sets of beans. All eaten as soon as they poke their heads up. Also, Swiss Chard, beets, and to be honest, I’ve now forgotten what else I’ve planted in that bed and it’s all been eaten. However, two green shoots are surviving. I suspect they’re tomato seedlings. At this point, whatever. I just am sad that whole bed is just dirt. It makes me sad.

Giveaways:

The Summer Giveaway is open! There are 33 participating authors with 33 book prizes and 33 summer gift prizes. The Grand Prize is $100 in Paypal cash. This is certainly a giveaway to get involved with.

Where will I Be?:

Now that the Payson Book Festival is done, I don’t have anything on my calendar until the December Mesa Book Festival. Dates are still to be determined but I’ll post as soon as the website makes info available.

On the other hand, if something juicy comes up, because it’s a long time between July and December, I’ll let you know. Do you know of an event where you’d like to see me? I’d love to know about it. Contact me here and say the word.

Happy Easter, Family Visit, Giveaway Winners: Monday Blog Post

Newest News:

I hope everyone had a safe and Happy Easter. The weather in my neck of the woods was just super—low to mid-seventies, clear sky and just too wonderful not to spend at least some of the days outside.

Andrew and me at Montezuma’s Castle

My brother left last Tuesday and my nephew, Andrew, came on Friday afternoon. We had a good time seeing Jerome, Cottonwood, the Tonto Natural Bridge and some American Indian pictographs. He had to leave us on Sunday afternoon to drive back to Ft. Huachuca to finish his E6 training.

Giveaways:

Still up for grabs! If you’ve looked at my “Where Am I” page on my website, you’ll have noticed that I’m going to be at the Phoenix Fan Fusion over Memorial Day weekend. (May 23rd – 26th) I’ve decided that I should do a giveaway. A free exhibitor pass for one of those days. I know that not everyone can take off for Phoenix at the drop of the hat. But if you’re in the area, and you’d like to come see me at my booth and spend the day at the event, sign up by emailing me at [email protected]. Post a picture of you with one of my books. Use the subject, PFF Ticket. I’ll draw a name on May 10th and contact the winner with directions for picking up the pass.

The St. Patrick’s Day giveaway winners have been drawn. I’ve contacted my winners already. They are Judy Thomas from New Zealand and Sarah Mayer from the USA. Congratulations to both of them. I’m not in the Spring giveaway, time just got away from me, but I will be in the Summer giveaway. https://conniesrandomthoughts.com/giveaways-and-prizes/

Stephen King, Gold Dreams, Family Visit, Giveaway: Monday Blog Post

Newest News:

A friend introduced me to a new Stephen King book, Elevation, last week. It’s a very quick read and not scary at all. Kind of SciFi, kind of literary, it’s still a good story and heart-warming, in a way. Don’t want to tell you too much and ruin the book for you. But take a look at it. I put up reviews on Amazon, Goodreads, and Bookbub. If you use those sites, take a moment to follow me as well.

I’ve finished revisions on Gold Dreams. My book cover designer, J.A. Marlow, has come up with an initial cover. There’s some tweaking to be done but this is close. I like the old-fashioned, kind of dime novel western look it has. What are your thoughts?

Kyaker Memorial

I’m prepping for my brother’s visit on Thursday. Spare room has been cleaned. Getting food in for us to prepare. Thinking about what fun things to show him. A hike is most certainly in the line-up.
