Happy Easter, Family Visit, Giveaway Winners: Monday Blog Post

Newest News:

I hope everyone had a safe and Happy Easter. The weather in my neck of the woods was just super—low to mid-seventies, clear sky and just too wonderful not to spend at least some of the days outside.

Andrew and me at Montezuma’s Castle

My brother left last Tuesday and my nephew, Andrew, came on Friday afternoon. We had a good time seeing Jerome, Cottonwood, the Tonto Natural Bridge and some American Indian pictographs. He had to leave us on Sunday afternoon to drive back to Ft. Huachuca to finish his E6 training.

Stephen King, Gold Dreams, Family Visit, Giveaway: Monday Blog Post

Newest News:

A friend introduced me to a new Stephen King book, Elevation, last week. It’s a very quick read and not scary at all. Kind of SciFi, kind of literary, it’s still a good story and heart-warming, in a way. Don’t want to tell you too much and ruin the book for you. But take a look at it. I put up reviews on Amazon, Goodreads, and Bookbub. If you use those sites, take a moment to follow me as well.

I’ve finished revisions on Gold Dreams. My book cover designer, J.A. Marlow, has come up with an initial cover. There’s some tweaking to be done but this is close. I like the old-fashioned, kind of dime novel western look it has. What are your thoughts?

Kyaker Memorial

I’m prepping for my brother’s visit on Thursday. Spare room has been cleaned. Getting food in for us to prepare. Thinking about what fun things to show him. A hike is most certainly in the line-up.

April Fools Day, Gold Dreams, New Giveaway: Monday Blog Post

Newest News:

It’s April Fools Day. We don’t do this holiday at our house. Neither the hubby nor I think scaring each other, or getting them to eat nasty food, is very funny. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the pranking if that’s what your family likes. Have fun but be safe!

Last week I mentioned that I had a writing to do list. There was a lot of stuff on that list. Over the course of last week, I made it even longer. Sigh. One of the things on the list was to get Gold Dreams moving. I finished going over it, printed it out and handed it off to a proof-reader. They’ll go through it and point out strange turns of phrase, do a fair job of catching spelling/grammar/punctuation errors, and give it back. Once I have a draft final, I can tell my cover designer how many pages this book is and she can finish my cover. So many steps to getting a book out. But, it’s lovely at the end to hold a new book in my hands.

Yesterday was the last day of my ebook, Slave Elf, at .99. The price is now $4.99.

Giveaways:

Gardening, Writing To-Do List, Winners: Monday Blog Post

Newest News:

Gardening. It’s already started for me. For one thing, I had to trim all of my rose bushes. That was a chore that took 4 days. Now I’m cleaning up all of the cut rose canes. Also, my peach and nectarine trees are in bloom. Also in bloom is the rosemary that’s planted between them. The pink flowers on the trees and the blue flowers of the rosemary look very nice together. Also this weekend I stuck fertilizer stakes into the ground for the fruit trees. Finally, I planted potatoes in my new deep raised bed and lettuces and spring onions in one of the shallow beds. So this last week was very productive in the garden.

I spent some time this last weekend making a writing to-do list. I have lots of projects in the works. One is to get my paperback Gulliver Station box set formatted. This will take some time in the Vellum program and on the Apple laptop. I’m not very experience with either so this is a bit of a challenge. Part of that box set is a new cover to accommodate the bigger book. Also on the list, reformatting First Encounters, The Downtrodden and Kindred Spirits to match Tested. These have the new covers, I just want the interiors to all match as well. More time in Vellum and on the Apple laptop. By the time I finish with all of that, I should be pretty competent. Then there’s Gold Dreams. I’d like that out soon to be ready for the Payson Book Festival in July. Actually, I’d like all of the above to be available for the book festival. I’d better spend less time scrolling aimlessly through Facebook.

Giveaways:

Winners in my Valentine’s Day giveaway were Padraig Ohiceadha, from Ireland and Jose Rosado from Portugal. Both of these people have followed me for a long time and I’m glad they won some prizes!

The St. Patrick’s Day giveaway is now up. Here’s the link and I hope you get in on this fast. This one isn’t going to run very long. There are 38 prizes and 38 books to be given away and $114 in Paypal cash as the grand prize. https://conniesrandomthoughts.com/giveaways-and-prizes/

Slave Elf Republished, Wild Flowers, Book Festival: Monday Blog Post

Poppies and lupine, March 2019, by Randy Cockrell

Newest News:

I don’t know where you all live but out here in the West, we had a wet winter. Wetter than it’s been in many years. So we’re now blessed with an abundance of wildflowers. California poppy and lupine are everywhere—entire hillsides and valleys are blanketed with flowers. A super bloom is what it’s being called. If you live here, please get out and enjoy the feast. If you’re still waiting for your snow to melt, enjoy our pictures, it’ll be your turn very soon.

Slave Elf. If you remember last week, I mentioned that there were a number of errors in the book. Ugh. Way too many and I found out how some of them crept in. My formatting program decided to do error corrections when I typed one thing and it thought I meant something else. Grrr. Auto correct is helpful until it isn’t. Anyway. I’ve gone through and cleaned it all up and republished it. I’ve ordered one book so I can check out whether more errors have crept in. Then I’ll order a bunch more for upcoming book events.

Giveaways:

The Valentine’s Day giveaway is now over and there are 45 prizes to give away and 45 books. The grand prize is $135 in Paypal cash. A winner’s list will be out soon, and I’ll let you know who’ve won my prizes.

Errors in Books, My YouTube Channel, Book Festival: Monday Blog Post

Security concept. Laptop with exclamation mark on the display from Deposit Photos

Newest News:

Slave Elf. I had a reader contact me after getting my book. This person found several errors, just in the first chapter! After so many times through it myself, and two separate editors, still errors managed to stay hidden. Sigh. Luckily for me and for you, this is fixable! As an independent author, I’ll be correcting the errors found and get that reader a fresh copy. Hopefully error free. This isn’t the first time this has happened and won’t be the last. If you find an error in my books, let me know. They’re all fixable and I’d love to give you a replacement copy after you’ve been so kind as to let me know about those persistent little punctuation, grammar, spelling and spacing errors.

Do you all use YouTube? I have a channel which, up until a couple of weeks ago, hardly ever was viewed and only had six subscribers. Then, all of a sudden, people found a video I’d posted seven months ago called Monsters in the Woods. So far it has 13k+ views and I now have 222 subscribers. I’m flabbergasted. I just posted that as a bit of fun. Now, I guess, I know what attracts viewers. You can find my page here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2rN2MWxDPLrI0bMv3vTKvg

New Year, Mom, Releases, New Promo: Monday Blog Post

Mom and her Flowers

Newest News:

The new year is here and for me, it comes with some sadness. As I mentioned last week, my mom was in bad condition. She passed away, just about 7am, on New Year’s Eve. Since then I’ve been up to my chin in all of the things that have to be done when someone in your family dies. Way too many things, I think, for people who are grieving. No matter. Later this week I’ll fly back to New York and say farewell to my mother with my sister and brothers, friends and other family.

Other new year news. Both of my stories, Gold Dreams and Slave Elf are being edited. Slave Elf is already back to me. (Bless you, Katarina, for working over the holidays!) I’ll have it out in February for all of you fantasy fans. It’s going to be highly edited from the raw story you read on my blog so if you’d like to see the changes, be alert for my published announcement!

The other book is my western, Gold Dreams. That is still with my editor, EJ. **Waves at EJ** It’s a novelette and is also based on my short stories released on the blog. Again, changes from the raw stories you read there. I want to have that done in about 2 weeks. So stay tuned.

Giveaways:

The Christmas Giveaway is over and soon the Valentine’s day giveaway will be up, then I’ll notify my winners.

Mesa Book Festival, Candy Making, Next Appearance: Monday Blog Post

Newest News:

Saturday I shared a table with author MarshaWard at the Mesa Book Festival. The weather was pretty good though got cold after the sun went down. We met so many people who just love books and even sold a few ourselves. If you were able to stop by and say hello, thank you. I loved talking to you. If you didn’t get to come down, I’m sorry. The day was gorgeous and there was a lot to do in downtown Mesa on the 7th. Hope to see you at my next event.

Part of my Christmas prep is to make candy. I like to make peppermint patties ,almond butter cups, and everyone’s favorite, chocolate truffles. What’s your favorite Christmas candy? Anyway, I haven’t started any of the candy making yet, so I’ll have to get on that. What’s next on your Christmas to do list?

For the last few weeks, I’ve been posting further adventures of my western, GoldDreams. I finished the story and sent it off to my editor. I’ll post some more episodes, just know that they’re raw and sometimes, with my editor, I make somesignificant changes before actual release. I hope to have this done in time to sell the books at the Black Canyon Heritage Park Winter Fest on January 26th. Black Canyon is north of Phoenix off of I17. Check it out, and if you’re in the area, stop by. I’ll have several of my other books there as well.

In other writing news, I did a first pass edit on Slave Elf. I haven’t put out a fantasy book since Lost Rainbows so I’m pretty happy with getting the edit step started. Now to get it into an editor’s hands for a 2019 release.

There’s a new interview from me up on Ellwyn Autumn’s site and you can read it here. I hope you enjoy it. Follow Ellwyn’s site for lots more interviews with authors you may come to love! She can also be found on Lemondrop Literary. Another great place to find new to you authors and stories. Enjoy!

Giveaways:

There’s still time to get in on the Christmas Giveaway! We have $120 in PayPal cash as the Grand Prize and from the individual authors, 81 books and 81 prizes. Hoo! Get in on it quickly! You can go here to check it out. https://conniesrandomthoughts.com/giveaways-and-prizes/

Payson Book Festival, Gardening, Northern Gila County Fair : Monday Blog Post

Story Monster greets festival-goers

Newest News:

The Payson Book Festival was Saturday, July 21st, and those of us on the committee are recovering from the activity. We had a great turn out though we’re still counting the numbers. The authors all had a good time talking to everyone who came and we even sold some books. Win! Win! Above is a picture from the event. After the stats are compiled, we meet on August 6th to go over everything from this year, then, BANG! We start planning for 2019. Mark you calendars. The next festival will be July 20th, 2019. www.PaysonBookFestival.org.

Tomato Horn Worm

Horn Worm

I’m picking mostly cherry tomatoes so far, and keeping an eye out for the above pictured fellows, called, Horn Worms. You can see why I pick them off of the plant and send them sailing over the fence into the drainage ditch. And a picture of the whole creature, just in case you find one in your tomatoes.

Next up on my personal schedule is the work on the Northern Gila County Fair. I’m the Exhibits Tent Director and there are 12 departments in my tent. I’m excited about the fair but like the book festival, it’s a huge undertaking. The fair this year is September 5th, 6th and 7th. You can find out more information and sign up for several events at www.NGCFair.com.  This is going to be so much fun!

Giveaways:

The 2018 Authors/Bloggers Summer Giveaway has started. https://conniesrandomthoughts.com/giveaways-and-prizes/. There’s $80 as a Grand Prize Paypal Cash and 27 books and 27 prizes available to win.

The July Smashwords’ site’s Summer/Winter Giveaway is still running for a few more days. I have books ranging from free to 25% or even 75% off. I don’t usually do this so if you’re interested in some discounts, this is your month! You can find a list of all of my books at https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/conniecockrell with the discounts already marked. Enjoy!

Shout Out:

I mentioned Sharon Day in my post yesterday. What? Yesterday? Yes. I’m now posting daily. At least I’m going to try to. Sharon is the reason and you can check out my post here, to see why. Here’s her blog link again. She’s written Ghost of a Chance, the first in her Seek Team Investigations. If you like spooky, this is the book for you.

Where Will I Be?

Check my website, https://conniesrandomthoughts.com/where-will-i-be/ for my future engagements.

My next event adventure is the October Pine/Strawberry Business Community Fall Festival. http://psbcaz.com/. The festival is a two day blast and I’ll be there both days selling and signing my books. Saturday is a chili cook-off which my hubby usually enters. The rest of the craft fair is just full of wonderful crafters and the best weather ever. You’ll never see such a blue sky so come on out. Try some chili, come by my table and say hi, buy your Christmas gifts early.
